You Can't Kill Edward With A Stake!

It's true... very, very true. I looooove me some Twilight.  In fact, I love all of Stephenie Meyer's books. She's brilliant. End of story.

With Edward, you couldn't even think about staking him without him knowing! He would probably have your neck snapped in less than a second, and he's really clever when it comes to covering it all up. That's before you even picked up the stupid piece of wood! He's a cool guy all right. If you got past the thought barrier, he could either crush your forearm with his grip before you could stake him, or he'd dodge your aim and get away.

To sum it all up, you'd probably have a better chance surviving a zombie epidemic than you would staking Edward Cullen.

Bella, You Should Choose...

This is the tale of Edward versus Jacob. While they both have very different pros and cons, the arguments for both sides are very strong. Some people have taken extreme sides on this issue, hence the terms "Team Edward" and "Team Jacob", and they are sworn enemies.

So let's talk a little bit about Edward. Some good characteristics of Edward are:

  • He's protective
  • He's immortal
  • He's stunningly beautiful
  • He sparkles
  • He's super strong and super fast
Being protective can be a comforting feeling; however it can spill over into being controlling, and nobody likes a controlling boyfriend. He's immortal, meaning Bella and Edward can be together forever. Him being stunningly beautiful doesn't hurt either. Ha ha, I put this one down just for laughs; he sparkles. Super strength and speed are important reflexes to have just in case Bella puts herself in immediate danger (which she often does).

Now let's compare Jacob. Some characteristics are:
  • He's loyal. (no pun intended)
  • He's equally gorgeous.
  • He is extra warm
When Edward leaves Bella, Jacob is like her rebound man; he was there for her in her time of need. Also I don't think anyone can argue about Jacobs muscle definition. Lastly, he can keep Bella warm on camping trips in the freezing cold.

So of course for Bella, this should be a very tough decision. On the contrary to what Stephenie has defined in the books, I believe Bella should have chosen Jacob because he has never betrayed her in the way that Edward has.

My Opinion On The Twilight Saga

There are many different opinions about the Twilight Saga. Some people love it to the point of obsession, they call themselves Twi-hards. Some completely loathe it, judging it based on the movies, which are nothing compared to the books. Stephenie Meyer is the author of the Twilight Saga, she is a very talented writer; Twilight, the first book of the series, was written based on a dream that she had.

It just so happens that I have Twilight fever. We are reading the first novel in the series for my English III course. Although this is my second time around with the book, I'm picking up extra things that I didn't read the first time around; it's like I'm analyzing it this time. We're learning in my class how to identify its archetypes, setting, and hero's journey.

I never thought that Bella could be the hero, I always thought that Edward was the hero; my teacher says that Bella and Edward both have their own hero's journeys and that they are parallel to each other. I realize now that that is true. If you ever have the chance to read Midnight Sun, you really should. It's like Twilight from Edward's perspective. Unfortunately, it isn't published. You can read it on Stephenie's blog if you're really interested.

Overall, I think the Twilight Saga is a great series. I would definitely recommend it to any young adult.
